Preview of 2018 Yoga Teacher Mentorship Programme
Studio 70 is gearing up for the launch of our first Mentorship Programme for new teachers. We are passionate about supporting yoga teachers and our aim is to develop and refine their skills to elevate our yoga community.
When I first finished my 200 hours YTT I remember feeling a bit bewildered and in need of guidance and support but unsure where to turn. I had covered most of the basics in my TT but learning to set up a business, fill classes and teach complete beginners and people with injuries were things that I stumbled through. I love teaching yoga but at the start it was a struggle!
The mentorship aims to ease the transition from learning to teaching; giving new teachers someone experienced to guide them, and offer tailored support and training.
Turning something from a passion and hobby into a business can be a tricky transition. For me learning how to have healthy boundaries and getting out of people pleasing mode was key. After doing a lot of training and coaching with my teachers I feel a lot more confident setting those boundaries and this has been a key part of running a sustainable business.
The main topics the mentorship covers are:
Finding your purpose
Business of Yoga
Class Room Management
Curriculum Development
Language
Observing students and teaching mixed levels
These topics will be covered in 3 group sessions but we will also offer tailored 121 mentoring, your own community class for 4 weeks at Studio 70 and the chance to join our sub list.
The mentorship will give you confidence in areas you may be uncertain about and support to be the best yoga teacher you can be. If you would like to apply for the programme please send us an email at info@studio70glasgow.com and we'll send you out an application form.
Even as teachers we are always students who understand the importance of continuing to learn and be curious about our teaching practice. We invite you to come along to our next workshop for teachers taught by Michelle Lang and I, Teaching Yoga to Mixed Levels, to enhance your teaching and get a flavour of what we are offering on the Mentorship.
Laura Barton is a co owner and teacher at Studio 70. She will be delivering the first mentorship programme from September to December.
