What is your mission as a yoga and pilates instructor?

My ethos as a teacher is to facilitate learning in my classes for my students. It’s important to give people a chance to understand their body’s mechanics and the integration of the breath into their practice. If my students come out learning something about themselves through self inquiry, then I’ve completed my mission. 

What can people expect from your classes?

My classes work around anatomy, psychology, breath and neuroscience. They can expect a class that engages them mentally and physically but without too much push. The methodology of my classes is inspired by my research and studies.

What does your self care routine look like at the moment?

At the moment my main self-care routine is to make sure that I am doing childs pose before bed and a sleep meditation. In the morning I mainly do meditations to help me focus. I also have smoothies, take care of my skin the morning and really enjoy brushing my teeth! :D 

What is your mantra?

My mantra is, ‘does this serve me?’ wether it be an action, a thought, a pose, a food etc… 

How has your yoga practiced changed and developed over time?

Yes my practice has gone more from hatha only based to more variety in movement. My practice has developed during my research and study. 

What’s your favourite yoga pose?

Downward Dog.

What advice would you give to someone who is just starting out on their yoga journey?

Even though it can be new and may be even scary, be curious and try to be in the process of the class and enjoy learning something new! ☺ 

What do you like to do for fun when you’re not teaching/ practising yoga and pilates?

Go to gigs in Glasgow, hiking, playing on the Nintendo 64/Playstation 1, watching Japanese anime or listening to podcasts. 

Ricky teaches Pilates on Mondays at 10am, Thursdays 8pm and Yoga on Thursdays at 6.30pm. Book a class with him!
