What's your fave studio 70 class?
I'm an early bird so partial to the 730am flow on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a nice 830am Yin to ease into Saturday/the weekend.
Favourite yoga pose?
Supta Baddha Konasana. It's meant to help stimulate abdominal organs as well as help relieve stress. I also find myself regularly doing a supine tree pose or resting half frog in my sleep so my body must subconsciously crave these! (Does anyone else do yoga in their sleep?!)
What keeps you coming back to your mat every week?
The sense of relief and grounding after a class keeps me coming back for more. It's my self-care time and I definitely notice a difference physically and mentally if I miss a class. Plus Studio 70 is such a warm welcoming space and the instructors are friendly, helpful and inclusive. I've visited other studios and it's not always the same vibes!
What's on your headphones at the moment?
I'm partial to a podcast if the headphones are on. (I tend to sing outloud to music which doesn't always sound as good when you have headphones on for some reason!) I like learning so am drawn to history podcasts. You're Dead to Me by Greg Jenner combines history with comedians and is pretty good. Teach me a Lesson by Greg James and Bella Mackie is another good one that covers a broad range of lessons you might've forgotten from school but are somehow much more fun and interesting as a "grown up". I fell victim to the Tiger King craze during the first lockdown and just finished a podcast called Wild Things about Segfreid and Roy, the Las Vegas illusionists who were also partial to Tigers. There's a subculture of people who really really love exotic cats! (Not me)
What are you reading/ watching?
Reading before bed helps me unwind more than TV. However, it's not unusual to find I've only read 2 pages and the book on my face after 5 minutes bc I've fallen asleep. For this reason I like a good easy bit of fictional mind candy to read at night. Recently that's been The Flatshare and The Road trip by Beth O'Leary. It's easy and predictable but an interesting enough plot that interweaves through the different characters to keep you till the end.
Your most loved shop/restaurant in the Southside?
Discovered Sunshine No 1 in Mt. Florida during the pandemic. It's great for unique, hand crafted gifts and cards. Suzie who runs the store is super friendly and will tell you a bit about where your item has come from. She keeps a map with locations for all the makers of the products she sells.
