Suzi tells us about yoga and running her own business

We love keeping it local and in the Southside there are so many amazing small businesses to choose from! Over the next few weeks we'll be chatting to local business owners who come to Studio 70.

This week we spoke to Suzi from Sunshine No 1, an independent art, gift and card shop in Mount Florida. Suzi has been doing yoga for many years so we were keen to hear what she had to say about her personal practice.

1.  How long have you been practising yoga for?

On and off for around 18 years.

2. What keeps you coming back to your mat every week? 

I keep coming back to my mat every week because of how yoga makes me feel both mentally and physically – I feel stronger in both ways. It uplifts me, focuses me, grounds me and connects my mental and physical health. Importantly, I can practice whatever size and shape I am – yoga doesn't discriminate!

3. What is your favourite yoga pose?

My favourite pose has to be Virabhadrasana II/Warrior 2 Pose - it makes me feel strong, focused and determined! I feel ready for anything after this pose!

4. How does yoga help you in your role as a business owner? 

Yoga helps my role as a small business owner because it definitely focuses me. I try to take the intentions I have in each yoga practice away with me into my day - whether it is to be strong and focused or to be kind and gentle to myself. The uplifting feeling I get from yoga helps me remain positive too. Additionally, being with the like minded yoga people in Studio 70 is important to me too as I feel part of a supportive community which is essential as being a small business owner can be isolating.
