What can you expect from this training?
During dedicated classroom modules and supervised teaching sessions, Jason and Paul will guide participants through classical Pilates Reformer repertoire as it was written by Joseph Pilates himself, sticking close to the roots of the original methodology. Covering the basics of anatomy and biomechanics will help participants to understand the physiology behind each exercise. Trainees will be taught valuable verbal and tactile skills to enhance their teaching, as well as practical 'day to day' problem solving when working with difficult clients.
Each weekend during the training will begin with a four-hour classroom session on Saturday and a Supervised Teaching session on Sunday, providing candidates with valuable hands on experience from day one. Jason and Paul firmly believe that continued practical experience teaching clients in a controlled and safe 'real world' environment is the key to turning out competent, high quality teachers! Weekend sessions are further enhanced by homework assignments, taking a deeper dive into each module and ensuring memorization of the classical Reformer repertoire as Joseph Pilates intended. After completing the course, all participants will be examined in a live studio setting by a third-party industry professional, providing invaluable feedback and credibility to the certification. Course participants will finish with the confidence and necessary skills to start teaching classical and modified Pilates Reformer classes immediately upon completion.

With over 40 years in the industry, Paul McLinden (PDTD, Royal Academy of Dance and former Head of Teacher Training for Body Control Pilates) has helped shape the Pilates method into one of the world’s fastest growing exercise methods.
In 1982, Paul became one of the original apprentices to Alan Herdman (the 'Godfather of Pilates', credited with bringing the method to Europe). Whilst training at Central School of Ballet and working Pineapple Dance Studios, Paul set up London's first Pilates mat classes, a method then known exclusively by dance professionals.
Paul performed as a contract soloist throughout Europe, dancing for national ballet companies in Spain, Sweden, Israel, and for the esteemed Arena di Verona. At the peak of his performance career, Paul shared a stage with ballet’s biggest stars: Rudolf Nureyev, Carla Fracci, and the Bolshoi’s Nina Ananiashvili.
In 1991, Paul returned to London, successfully completing the Professional Dancers Teaching Diploma at the Royal Academy of Dance, personally certified to instruct classical ballet under the direction of Dame Margot Fonteyn. Paul then spent five years as the first Head of Teacher Training for the Body Control Pilates Association, a current world leader in Pilates education.
As the Studio Manager to Gordon Thompson’s Kensington-based Pilates studio, Paul trained high-profile clients including Uma Thurman, Stefanie Powers, Julian Sands, Nick Cave, Hugh Grant, and Sir Ian McKellen (to name a few). In 1997, Paul opened Brighton’s original Pilates studio with fitness guru and best selling author Helge Fisher, and later in 2002, launched Ocean Wave Pilates with his business partner and protege, Jason Thomas.
Today, Paul remains one of the most recognizable names in the Pilates industry. He's certified hundreds of Pilates instructors worldwide, bringing a lifetime of knowledge and experience to his apprentices and devotees.

With a background in gymnastics, Jason discovered the classical Pilates method in the late 1990's whilst living in California. His belief in this revolutionary fitness method led him to train with industry leaders (including Paul McLinden, PDTD Royal Academy of Dance and Siri Galliano of Live Art Pilates, Beverly Hills) before co-founding Brighton and Hove's first classical Pilates studio, Ocean Wave Pilates in 2002.
His pursuit of continuing education in the field inspired Jason to gain qualification with the Body Control Pilates Association, achieving Level 3 Pilates certification with the Register of Exercise Professionals. During his 20+ years of teaching, Jason has co-presented Masterclass workshops to Pilates instructors around the world, providing classical Pilates apparatus training during residencies in Argentina, Thailand, Australia, and Germany. He is a former guest lecturer at the University of Chichester's Department of Dance, having set up the University's first classical Pilates studio and instructed MFA Dance students in advanced Pilates matwork.
Jason is honoured to teach cast and crew weekly at the National Theatre of Scotland as well as poolside for holiday experts Yoga Explorers, joining participants at Tigmi Retreat in Marrakech (as mentioned in Harper's Bazaar) and 5-star eco-resort Prana del Mar on the Mexican Pacific coast.
Jason has co-produced and featured in several instructional DVDs, including 'Pilates for Dancers' and 'Pilates Revolution.' His private client base includes taxi drivers and working mums, professional athletes and ballet dancers, TV stars and Grammy™ Award winners.

You do not have to have done extensive classes on the Reformer (we’ve very aware of how powerful this offering is for your future students though). We would recommend you attend a class with Jason ahead of registering for this training if you have any questions and to ensure his teaching style aligns with your own personal preferences and values.

The best thing to do is contact us so we can discuss your concerns. We can help you to modify the physical practices to accommodate your needs and it’s more important that you’re able to attend all sessions, complete your assignments and participate in group work than it is to be able to complete the practices.

Between your acceptance and the beginning of the program, the best thing you can do is take good care of yourself. Get plenty of rest, ask those in your life to support you and stay engaged in a regular practice.
We would love to get you know you more so come along for a class with us and introduce yourself to our lovely teaching team.
